Nottinghamshire County Council and FullFibre’s Fibre Heroes were on site in Southwell throughout December as work continues to connect Nottinghamshire residents to ultrafast broadband.
This long-anticipated upgrade to the current network is part of an on-going build programme in Nottinghamshire that started in Retford and will enable homes and businesses in the region to access 100% fibre optic ultrafast internet.
Fibre Heroes is investing £2.1million into the Southwell build, and £9.4million in the county overall. These new services will be available later in 2023 and, once live, internet connections in Southwell will be capable of download speeds that are 20 times faster than the national average at 1Gbps.
Nottinghamshire County Councillor Keith Girling, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Asset Management from Nottinghamshire County Council, comments, “We understand how vital digital connectivity is to modern life. We want to ensure that Nottinghamshire’s infrastructure meets the needs of residents and businesses in the county who require a reliable and fast internet connection in their daily lives”.
“It’s fantastic to see Fibre Heroes’ progress in Southwell since their announcement to build in the town this summer. It highlights the confidence the telecoms sector has in Nottinghamshire as a place to invest and will support the region to become an increasingly desirable place to live and work”.
Head of Public Procurement and Engagement at Fibre Heroes, Matt Smith, comments, “We are really excited to be rolling out our gigabit capable broadband network in Southwell. We’ve been building in Retford for a few months and residents there will soon be able to choose ultrafast broadband services from a long list of providers. With Southwell close behind, even more of the county’s residents and businesses will be able to take advantage of the benefits of full fibre broadband”.
FullFibre’s Fibre Heroes is a wholesale telecoms network provider looking to connect the underserved towns of the UK with a superior broadband connection, helping to level the digital landscape.
Local business and residents can access these new services through any broadband provider active in the area. The full list of Fibre Heroes’ service providers include BeFibre, IDNet, Link Broadband, Merula, OctaPlus, Redline, Squirrel.
